Salma Yaqoob is an activist, head of Birmingham Stop the War Coalition, commentator, broadcaster and the former leader of the Respect Party of UK. She appears regularly on BBC Question Time, BBC Newsnight, Channel Four & ITV news and writes columns for The Guardian, Aljazeera, and HuffPost. She has received numerous awards, including an Honorary Doctorate from Birmingham City University for services to public life, having served as an elected councillor in the city. The Guardian newspaper named her as “the most prominent Muslim woman in British public life” and Harper’s Bazaar magazine named her among the “thirty most influential women in the country”. Salma is a qualified psychotherapist with a degree in Human and Applied Psychology, as well as Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Integrative Psychotherapy. She works as a Senior Manager in an NHS Mental Health Trust and is currently the Programme Director for Health Inequalities at Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System.
