Ömer Çelik received his BA on Public Administration at Gazi University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and his MA on Political Sciences with his thesis, “The New Appearences of Pluralism in Türkiye (Latest Discussions Regarding the Pluralist Society Model)”. He worked as a journalist and a political scientist for some time. He was elected as the Deputy of Adana for the 22nd, 23rd and 24th parliamentary terms. He served as a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Turkish Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO. In 2010, he became the Deputy Chairman responsible for Foreign Affairs of AK Party (Justice and Development Party). For the 61st and 62th Governments, he became the Minister of Culture and Tourism, and for the 65th Government, he acted as the Minister of European Union Affairs. Since 2015, he has served as the Vice Chairman of Publicity and Media and Party Spokesperson. 

Ömer Çelik served as Minister of Culture and Tourism between 24 January 2013 and 28 August 2015. He served as the Minister of European Union Affairs and as the Chief Negotiator for Turkish Accession to the European Union between 2016–2018.

He was elected to Parliament as a deputy from Adana for three consecutive terms in 2002, 2007 and 2011. Since 2010, he has served as the Deputy Chairman responsible for Foreign Affairs. He is also the chairman of the Friendship Group of Bilateral Parliamentary Relations between Türkiye and the United States.
